Wetland Delineation and Permit Specialist

GPD is looking to hire a full time, Wetland Delineator and Permitting Specialist with an interest in supporting the preparation and submission of technical reports and permitting documents for power and renewable energy projects. This position is an excellent opportunity for qualified wetland professionals who possess a high level of self-motivation and demonstrate enthusiastic leadership. This position provides an opportunity to take full ownership of power industry projects from start to finish.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- B.S./B.A. degree in natural science field of study
- 3+ years wetland delineation field experience and ability to delineate wetlands independently
- 2+ years’ experience in project management and preparing and submitting permit applications through federal and state agencies including USACE, SHPO, DNR, and USFWS.
- Experience with Ohio and Pennsylvania ecosystems, habitats, and wildlife
- Experience with local and regional flora identification
- Ability to key out and identify plants using plant identification manuals
- Ability to read and interpret resource mapping
- Experience with soil classification and hydraulic soil indicators
- Experience with Global Position Systems (GPS) data collection platforms (ESRI Field Maps) and GIS
- Well versed in state and federal regulations, the 1987 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Manual, and current Regional Supplements
- Experience with Ohio and Pennsylvania wetland and aquatic resource assessment methods
- Experience coordinating with state and federal agencies regarding threatened and endangered (T&E) species, floodplain development, historic/archaeological, etc.
- Experience with technical report writing
- Ability to travel overnight
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently
- Additional Beneficial Skills:
- Additional background in fisheries, endangered species, herpetology, or amphibians
- Professional Wetland Scientist or Professional Wetland Scientist in Training (WPIT) Certification or the ability to obtain is preferred.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
- Consulting with clients regarding ecological considerations for site development including wetland and stream permitting options and T&E species
- Conducting wetland assessments/delineations, aquatic resource assessments, and wetland functional assessments in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Prepare wetland reports and obtain jurisdictional determinations.
- Conducting or facilitating rare/threatened/endangered species habitat surveys, ecological inventories in Ohio and Pennsylvania
- Preparing technical reports and permit applications for regulatory approvals under the Clean Water Act and associated state permitting programs, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other relevant natural resource planning/permitting disciplines.
- Developing and submitting project reports to various agencies and entities
- Conducting work year-round in adverse weather and rough terrain
- Independently preparing technical reports and permit documents, and maintaining excellent communication with project managers, clients, employees, permitting agencies and subcontractors
- Ability to support client and agency permitting needs during all project processes
- Ability to perform construction monitoring
